Brazil. Oct ’13

Having finally got myself some trainers (obviously I went for the most colourful pair I could find) October was a very active month! I danced frevo and did an African dance workshop  in Olinda (barefoot – not such a good idea), went surfing in Porto de Galinhas and even went rowing down by the river (and immediately remembered why I stopped rowing back in Oxford).

At one end of the cultural spectrum I continued my conversations with Jose Amaro learning about his childhood in Aguas Frias and the changes that the neighbourhood has gone through over time, from quiet countryside periphery to a walled and boxed in neighbourhood of the city. At the other end I was thrown in the deep end of shopping mall culture, teaching English to shop assistants in the early hours of the morning: Good afternoon sir, how can I help you?

A beautiful month living the day-to-day of Recife.
